The barriers to communication refer to the misrepresentation or misunderstanding related to the same information. In other words, when the receiver receives the information from the sender then it is not exactly the same as the information sent by the sender, then there will be a barrier.

Barriers to communication:

The obstacles related to communication are classified into main four categories which are as follows:

1. Semantic barriers:

It means when the information or message is not understood by the receiver in the same sense as the sender sends the message. It refers to the understanding of the information with different meanings. this is also known as a misunderstanding between the sender and the receiver.

For example, faulty transactions, message send with symbols but have different meanings for different people like language, culture, 

2. Psychological barriers:

lack of attention, distrust, and poor relations with other members of the organization are the main causes of psychological barriers. For example, employees not taking care of the notice or message given by their boss.

3. Organizational barriers:

Organizational structure, rules, policies, organizational complexities are creating barriers to communication. When channels of communication are very complex and the information pass through various levels then sometimes the meaning and way of information exchanged will be changed.

4. Personal barriers:

The attitude of the managers, lack of confidence among the employees, work overload, ignorance, etc. may cause barriers to communication which affects the organizational environment adversely.

For example, a manager shows a negative attitude to his employees and always behaving rudely then employees not feel comfortable with him. Sometimes they are not ready to disclose the information inappropriate manner.
